This isn't an anime with non-stop action, but it does have its share of dark supernatural battle scenes, as well as witty humorous battle scenes. Anyways, the series themes of revenge and redemption are woven together well with well-crafted story lines. It actually builds different stories to support different themes. This series doesn't have the lazy, shortcut type of writing that simply fills the plot gaps.

Not that it was Oscar-worthy writing, but most of the writing I've seen in anime has always been the thing that prevented me from really loving it. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true or at least, too good to be human. This may be the most well written anime series I've seen. And whether Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London’s underbelly, there apparently is nothing Sebastian cannot do. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria’s faithful servant and a slip of a twelve-year-old boy.įortunately his loyal butler Sebastian is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master’s wishes.

Just a stone´s throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom and its master, one Ciel Phantomhive. The series has been licensed by Yen Press in North America and published in Yen Press’ August 2009 issue for the magazine’s first anniversary. Sebastian is a demon who has taken on the disguise of a butler, and in exchange for his services, he will be allowed to consume Ciel’s soul.

Ciel has formed a contract with Sebastian Michaelis to seek revenge against those who tortured him and murdered his parents. He is tasked with solving crimes in London’s underworld. The series follows Ciel Phantomhive, a thirteen-year-old boy head of the Phantomhive household, an aristocratic family known as the Queen’s Guarddog. Since its debut on September 16, 2006, it has been serialized in Gangan Comics’ shōnen manga magazine Monthly GFantasy. Black Butler (Japanese: 黒執事 Hepburn: Kuroshitsuji) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yana Toboso.
